Dear Pat, Omby and Jake,

Thank you for the wonderful Boxing Day riding lesson. The three of you were so charming and patient that the 2 hours just flew by!

Now we know all about your diets, your treats, your habits (good and bad) and your daily routines. We understand to that cats are integral part of your life and oversee most of the stable activities. Standing at the back door and watching all of you in the snow was beautiful, and then coming inside and watching Buttercup and Tobias in the ring encouraged the riding venture that was such a special ending to our visit. Jeff and Monique will surely return and Lorna takes away a great memory. Big Ben and Secretariat never possessed half the charm of Jake!

Many thanks for the hospitality. We will certainly enjoy the tape and it will be returned by mail or by Jeff and Monique.

Happy New Year to the three of you and all your stable mates...

hi pat wow the last time i was on thi site was october when i had the problem with the horse who didn't like her face being brushed... any way thats not a problem anymore because i don't take lessons there anymore i ride a horse on a private farm...no more lessons although i need them...and i don't have any problems with this horse other than her being a little pushy.
I am ssooo sorry about gorge during my visits i don't think i got to meet him!!! p.s. Hullo to chelsea

Hi Chelsea.
We think George was probably some where between 26 and 30 years old. We had had him since he was 14 but I can't remember the year we bought him.
He had Cushing's Disease and had foundered. It is always hard to say good bye but we didn't want him to suffer.
It is nice that you remember him fondly. So will I.

Anyone is welcome to come and watch the inhouse shows. In August we have an Invitational Show and this year (2006) it is our intention to have it open to everyone. Our next in house show is in March and I hope you can make it.

I think Jack is about 15.3 hands. I haven't actually measured him, but I'm guessing that's approximately how tall he is. That equals 63 inches, or 5.25 feet to his withers.

Hi Brianna:
I named the farm Harrogate Hills because I went to England in the early 80's and went to school at a place in Yorkshire called the Yorkshire Riding Centre. When I came back to Canada and started the business I decied to use a name that reminded me of where I had studied. Harrogate is a town nearby and so I decided to go with that name.
Probably not a very interesting answer but there you go!

hi pat i was wondering when you groom a horse you use the curry comb,dandy brush,body brush. but what do you do on the face? i tried using a body brush ( the soft one ) and the horse at my riding school pinned her ears and through up her head am i doing any thing wrong?!?!
p.s. I still really wish i could ride at harrogate instead give my love to omby

About the boarding costs (not that i am getting a horse anytime soon but i am looking at diff prices) if you let the hors be par of the school program do you get a reduced monthly boarding cost? and if you help out alot? If I got a horse at some point (after I get more experience that is) I would want to board it at harrogate but it is alot just like anywhere s I was wondering. Bye!

Regarding your question about Big Cheyanne, she is in semi-retirement at the present time although we would like to see her back in the school on a part time basis. We are working on getting her back in to shape. Don't tell her I said this but she is a little over weight! I will try to say hi to all of the horses for you but hopefully you will be able to come by soon and say it yourself. Talk to you soon,

I was wondering if people still ride big chey? She is alot older then i thought she was lol! Next time I want to ride either her, Scout or Atticus. Of course I would looooooooove to ride Jack again but since he wass just leant to the camp and people usually get to try different horses then I wouldnt get to ride him, if I had the chance I would though! He is such a good boy!
Thinking of everyone every day! (I'm sure you can tell since I write almost everyday, I mean I can't even keep a journal cause i can never stick to it but I manage to right here so much)

Tobias is privately owned but his owner has kindly agreed to let us use him in the school. He is actually a Percheron/Thoroughbred cross and I don't think he is quite as tall as Big Chey. We will have to measure him to be sure.

Hi Brianna,
Jack has been at Harrogate for the last 5 years, and before that, he was at Colony Stables in Bond Head for about 4 months. Prior to all of that, he was at Fort Erie race track trying to be a race horse, but unfortunately was MUCH too slow. Everyone who has known Jack for any length of time, will not be surprised by this at all! :-)
Oddly enough, there's a horse at Blue Star who looks very much like Jack too, so he must have doubles at quite a few barns!

Great to hear from you. As far as 'health' updates go, Omby is still resting but Scout is back to work and doing fine. Sadie is lovely to all of the people in her life but still not so keen on the other horses. She is in an adjacent field right now so that she can't hurt anyone.. Thanks for all of your kind words. I am so glad you enjoyed your summer here. Hopefully you can make it to our Twentieth Anniversary party on Saturday, October 1st. It will give you a chance to say HI in person to all of us and the horses.

I haven't figured out how to send photos to our webmaster but I will try to get someone wiser than me to send her some pictures of Zoom. Regarding Cash, I am not sure if he recognizes Zoom as his sister. He certainly seems interested in her but I don't know if that is just because likes meeting new horses. We'll have to ask him!

hi chelsea sorry i havent been able to talk much before lessons i keep coming in late. lol ricky put up a huge fight today! and now iv'e got blisters on my fingers and i was riding with a huge burn on my leg.
before i moved to innisfil i was saving up for the harrogate camp i realy wanted to ride eather pal or omby i miss harrogate so much and pal R.I.P. big buddy :(

Dear Sara...Yepp, I used to ride at Harrogate Hills, but then I moved to Innisfil, and yeah you know the rest! Wow I finally got to meet you! Sorry I wasn't talking much, people kept talking to me! Did you see Maggie? Nobody was riding her, but hopefully someone will this Saturday. And trotting for most beginners is kind of uncomfortable, but you will get used to it, and Magic (I think you were riding him) isn't always that smooth. See you on Saturday!!

hey sara....im not graduating..im in grade 7...i graduated from grade 6 last year:D but anyway....i think know ashley..she rides on sunday right? at innisfree, u dont necessarily need proper riding boots, running shoes are fine. they do provide helmets for you too. no they don't let the students ride the stallions. actually, nobody can ride them, they're crazy! haha! wow that's soooo weird...nantyr is on the end of my street! well anyway...my horse's name is Maggie. i can't wait to see you on saturday! i'll be sure to say hello

Hey Harrogate! I was just reading the last message, and I find it really coincidental that I also ride at Innisfree Valley Farm in Innisfil!! That's so weird! Well anyways, hope everything is going good at the farm!

i always wanted to ride at harrogate hills ever since i visited with my friend. my mom almost said yes but then we moved to innisfil but the good news is that i found a diffrent place to ride it's called
innisfree valley farm and i get to ride for two months and its allot smaller than harrogatehills

Hi Maddy.
Although I don't really like the expression "breaking a horse" it is I suppose a matter of custom to refer to it in that way.
Atticus has had some problems with his back and Erin (Glory and Cirrus's mom) has very kindly offered to bring him back into work slowly. So it is not really that we have to "re-break" him but rather we just want to get him back into shape so that he can be comfortable in his work.

As for Atticus, it's believed that he has a soar back so he hasn't been ridden for awhile. I am currently lunging him to get him back in shape. Once we figure out and fix what is bothering him he'll start being ridden again.

She is back for the summer now. Nick still rides here too. It is very sad about Paladin but when I read everyone's nice messages about him it makes me less sad somehow. He gave us all some really nice memories that is for sure. Like you, I like to imagine he is in heaven with his old friends Keaton and Gertie.

Hello Sara: Paladin was put down on Tuesday, April 19. He had been having trouble since Chrstimas and had lost a lot of weight. On Monday, April 18 he had a lot of trouble getting up as he had gotten quite weak and it was decided at that time that, for his sake, we should let him go. He was my favourite too Sara and I miss him as well. Although it is sad, it is nice to read these notes and realize that other people thought he was special too.

All that you need to ride at Harrogate is a pair of boots with a half inch heel and a helmet. We have approved helmets here that you can borrow until you can get one of your own. Hope that helps.
